Staff Training

I've been a Music teacher for almost 19 years and I love it just as much today, as when I qualified.  In my time I've been; a classroom teacher, a head of department, a choir leader, a trainer and a private tutor.  I've worked with children and adults across the ages and abilities in both formal school settings, holiday provisions and out of school activities.  I've worked for three different counties (Sefton, Conwy and Denbighshire), Denbighshire Music Co operative (music service), Stagecoach Performing Arts, Barnardo's, TiC - Theatre in the Community amongst others.  I've planned and prepared more shows, concerts and exam performances than I can remember - and yes, I can help you with this too.

What all of these have in common - is an unwavering love for my subject.  Music.  Music is my life and I LOVE it - whether that be singing, playing, leading, listening, demonstrating...  And I want everyone to have a piece of that enthusiasm, experience and knowledge I bring to the table.  The order of these words enthusiasm, experience and knowledge is important - especially when it comes to non-specialists - Music is scary, loud, disorganised chaos and you need to know a lot of stuff - perfectly - right?

Wrong.  What our children need now, post covid, more than ever, is just a chance.  A chance to start, to try, to sample and discover.  And they can discover WITH us so much better than without.  Why on earth are we not offering MORE music when even the NHS is prescribing it for all kinds of depression, Alzheimer's and in SCBU units for our most fragile infants.

You do not need to know everything - we certainly don't expect to know everything to try teach other subjects do we?  But knowing where to start - this is a big problem classroom teachers really struggle with.  And where I can help.  To equip you with some basic, fundamental knowledge to build upon.  To give you that starting point and show you how to scaffold that learning - for you AND your pupils.  To find your voice, your rhythm, share what ignites you and most importantly - leave you feeling like you've got this.

I am very familiar with the new Curriculum for Wales and the importance Music and the wider Expressive Arts now play within it and I can tailor your training session/s around your school and staff priorities.
